1 Sensing the Room

Stand up and move around in the room.

It might be that there are a lot of obstacles in the room that you have to find your way around.

Of course you will also move against and with your peers. Intuitively decide how to give space to each other within the constraints given by the room, its walls and the objects inside it.

Walk around the room, so that you get a good feeling of where things are.

Try to see what happens when you walk faster, can you even go faster and still feel safe?

Try to see what happens when you walk slower, is it easier to navigate?

What is the most comfortable speed of walking within the room and in dialogue with others?

Try to memorise the room, do different parts of the room smell differently?

Does sound travel differently through different places in the room?

Are there parts of the room that are colder than others?

Now slow down your walking.

Slow down your walking a lot.

Gently close your eyes, you can at first keep them a little open to see how it feels, but try to ease yourselves into closing your eyes fully.

You will feel that you need to slow down your walking even more, to not run into anything or anyone.

You may also sense that you will brush against other bodies, your accomplices.

Feel for the presence of things and people around you without navigating through your eyes.

Try to use your sense of smell, of touch and of listening. Can you hear others moving? Can you smell their presence?
