Last rector of LUCA School of Arts, educational de-silofication engineer, creative generalist, tech embracing punkrocker, naïve optimist - July 6th 2011 in Ghent, Belgium
I am currently not only the youngest rector of LUCA School of Arts, but also its last. My job there is as challenging as it is mind-tingling: to dismantle LUCA School of Arts and guide its transition towards a new organisational and educational model. In 2043, LUCA volunteered to be one of the 10 pilots in the European ‘Educational Transformation’ programme to find a solution for the devaluation of the diploma. The inability, or unwillingness even, of national governments to tackle this 15 year old problem gave birth to this pan-European experimental zone.
I like to think of myself as a de-silofication evangelist and generalist, enthusiastically specialising in not specialising. I feel at ease where disciplines and opposites meet. This is also reflected in the way I approaches my (very modest) musical career, combining compositional rawness of last century’s punkrock movement with curious and hungry exploration of new technologies.
