Thanks to my greatgrandson, who does something with medicin or something, and my daily walk, I live to see 2045. People nowadays don’t walk anymore. Or play the trumpet.
There’s this very nice man from a university who comes by sometimes to access my memories of the great jazz days, to analyze it and make a movie or a documentary or something like that. He helps me remember. People nowadays don’t know what it was like to go to performances. Or play an instrument. Or walk. I miss live music, so I try to teach my greatgreatgreatgrandson the trumpet.
He says he can push a button to learn this, but you should learn an instrument the right way. Also learn about music. It’s not because a computer reads notes, you shouldn’t learn to. Music was so much more diverse in the ‘50s. I am here because I think art schools should teach REAL, hands-on art. Not all that digital mumbo-jumbo. That’s why I joined the group of School of Commons in 2022.
Common knowledge plays a key role in our society, I get that. But with my organization Art Oldschool I try to spread the word about real instruments and how much fun they are. We work with 300 students from all ages at the moment, and we have 15 teachers. We also have a strict no-chip or smartarm activity in the school. It makes people talk and experience the world in a different way. I hope that will be my legacy. Human interaction is on the line.
Looking forward to meet some new people in the School of Commons! Sincerely Aldo Birantoni
